The City of Carpinteria is approximately 12
miles southeast of Santa Barbara. The City covers a land area of 2.6
square miles, and an ocean area of 4.7 miles. Carpinteria's average
temperatures range from 45 to 72 degrees with more than 275 days of
sunny weather per year. Average yearly rainfall is 17.9 inches. The
current City population is estimated at 14,394 people. The
Carpinteria community is primarily middle class, with unemployment
and poverty rates significantly below those of the rest of Santa
Barbara County.
The Carpinteria Unified School District is
comprised of four elementary schools, one middle school, and one
high school. The school district participates in the Class Size
Reduction Act.
The industries employing
the largest number of workers in the City are
services, retail, and durable manufacturing. Prominent
service industries that support tourist activities include recreation
and amusement, hotels and lodging, and local transportation
services.
